Building a serial cable

Here are instructions for a serial cable to connect to a sanyo projector with an 8 pin mini-din service port. This should be fairly easy to build, but you are advised to carefully check the wiring throughly before connecting it to any other equipment.

Components (from CPC or similar supplier)
---------------------------------------------------

* 8pin mini-din to bare ends cable
* db9 male plug
* db9 back shell
* small diameter heat-shrink (possibly optional)

* basic micro-electronics soldering tools (iron, solder, wire cutters/strippers)
* Multimeter

Pinout

PC - Projector
1 - nc
2 - 6
3 - 1
4 - nc
5 - 4,7,8
6 - nc
7 - 5
8 - also 5
9 - nc

nc = not connected

Check which order the backshell needs to go on, then solder it up, jumpering the appropriate wires on the 9pin end.

Sanyo projectors seem to default to 19200 baud, but can be set to 9600.
